Jack Stanford

LIFE LONG EDUCATOR (1930-2012)

Jack Stanford was a life-long educator whose educational influence and leadership helped to improve the lives of thousands of children. He spent 59 meaningful and exciting years as a prominent leader, consultant and Trustee in the Independent School sector throughout the United States.

He enjoyed the honor of serving as a Head of School for two different independent schools in Memphis, TN for 23 years; served a total of 26 years on the Board of Trustees of four independent schools and finally consulted with approximately 30 independent schools on topics which include issues of governance, orientation of Trustees, faculty in-service and strategic planning.

His leadership abilities were sought after by many educational organizations and resulted in positions of prominence which include Leadership roles in the following professional associations:

  • President of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • President of the Southern Association of Independent Schools
  • President of the Mid-South Association
  • President of the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools
  • President of the Memphis Association of Independent Schools
  • Chair of the Board of the Secondary School Committee for the National English Speaking Union
  • Chair of the SACS Elementary School’s Commission for Tennessee (Nashville)
  • Chair of the Membership Committee for National Association of Independent Schools and NAIS Trustee

His memory will live with us forever as will his guidance in helping us to solidify our organizational roots and vision.
